Tile Calculator FAQs
Can I use this as a backsplash calculator?
Yes. Choose Wall or backsplash, then enter length and height or use Known square footage. For an irregular backsplash, divide the area into rectangles, add them together, and enter the total. The calculator can estimate tiles, whole boxes, grout bags, and material cost from the values you enter.
How are tiles and boxes calculated?
The calculator adds your cut-and-waste allowance to the project area. It estimates tile count using tile dimensions plus the entered grout joint, then rounds up to whole tiles and whole boxes. This area-based estimate does not lay out individual cuts. Check the planned rows, pattern, actual dimensions, and package coverage before ordering.
How much grout do I need?
Enter the grout manufacturer's coverage per bag for your tile size, joint width, and joint depth. The calculator divides the area including your selected waste allowance by that coverage and rounds up to whole bags. It does not calculate grout density or joint depth, so the bag coverage you enter matters.
Is this a tile cost calculator?
The total is whole tile boxes multiplied by your box price, plus whole grout bags multiplied by your bag price. It excludes labor, tax, delivery, adhesive, substrate repair, waterproofing, trim, and tools. Use the installation cost guide above to plan the wider budget.
